I’m not fond of the way the UBB was proposed by the CRTC and its constituents, and I’m glad that Tony Clement has stamped down on the whole thing. Though you notice that the chairman has been trying to compare it to utility bills a lot. You want to compare it to utility? Then price it like utility. Make it cost like $0.15 a GB for people who want to use only what they download, and perhaps some flat $50 fee for those who want to go unlimited. There’s no need for these base flat fees, bandwidth caps, and expensive overage costs.

Oh, also give me the option to disable network throttling too. I don’t care if it adds $0.05 a GB (or $10 to my unlimited fee).

My upstream isn’t so great though, and the computer I’m working with isn’t that strong for encoding. Fortunately the two happen to be on the same level, so all is good.

http://www.justin.tv/velocity7/videos

My history of streams will be here, but Justin.tv deletes the files within a week. I will make an effort to put up files from Justin.tv on the website when I can.

This week’s feature happens to be Vanquish, for the PS3. I’ll look at other games as I go along.

P.S. It is impossible to put these on YouTube, I’m certain of it. Although Justin.tv offers the functionality, these videos are at least two hours in length at times.

If you’ve been following my Twitter, you’ve probably noticed I’ve been working on some HG model kits from Gundam 00. Pictures and short reviews after the jump.

Astraea

Generally speaking, this was not too hard to build. I like how the GN Cannon can mount on the front shoulder piece; now I understand why there was a quadruple-GN cannon setup with this kit. Too bad you’d have to spend money on four Astraea kits just to get it. For this kit, I had painted the eyes with metallic green Gundam Marker and black pen around it to get an effect not unlike the stickers. The Proto GN Sword’s outside lining was painted in metallic silver Gundam Marker; same goes for the inside lining of the GN Cannon.

Because of recycled parts from the “Astraea R2″, I also went and built the head with the visor on. The visor was handpainted in clear blue, and it looks great when it connects on the front of the head.

Avalanche Exia Dash

Quite a number of runners to build this beast. Very heavily armored, and unfortunately very reliant on stickers. I went with Gundam Marker instead, though you can see I’m not great at it. The GN Sword was painted metallic silver on the outside much like the Astraea.

Exia R2

Actually, this was more a reconversion. If you recall my earlier blog post, I had created an “Astraea R2″, but eventually I got a little tired of it and converted back to Exia. You’ll also notice in the gallery that I painted the flywheel metallic silver, and the insides of the GN Drives are painted metallic green. It may seem like the flywheel was painted green, but it’s actually a reflection caused by the lighting from the two. Neat effect.

00 Raiser Seven Sword/G

This one I enjoyed the most putting together. You see, I had initially built 00 Raiser a couple of years back, but it was a botched paintjob, and I had to buy an extra 0 Raiser kit because I had lost some missing parts. Even so, the paintjob was still miserable. This year I opted to buy a 00 Gundam Seven Sword/G kit, and while I was building it, I decided to recycle the old 0 Raiser parts with the good ones (I had plenty to go around). As a result, I ended up with the 00 Raiser Seven Sword/G; you don’t want to mess with this thing. It’s also quite heavy.

The insides of the GN Buster Sword are painted metallic green only on the GN Condenser sections. I was surprised at how easy it was to get it done; I even had time to use a black pen to go around the metallic green section on the white part of the sword. The GN Shields, though an afterthought, were also painted metallic green on the outer edge.

00 Qan[T]

Chronologically speaking, this was actually the first kit I built after the “Astraea R2″. The shield was painted white on the corner, and the headpiece was painted by hand with a brush; with some trial and error, I actually got some interesting practice and skills working on the 00 Qan[T], which carried over to the other model kits in some areas.

Overall

Across all of the units, the section under the GN Condenser was painted metallic green where applicable; this was not the case with the 00 Raiser 7s/G, as it had small details on the stickers I didn’t want lost. That said, the lens themselves were either handpainted or airbrushed in clear green. Only the 00 Raiser, Exia R2, and Astraea had their eyes painted rather than having stickers, as they came later chronologically during my work and I had some time to experiment with painting eyes.

I read about this story a couple of days ago, and was appalled at the number of people who talked him down, laughing and generally disrespecting the man.

I dunno what to say other than, are you guys idiots?

Account Hacking

Anyone who gets any kind of account hacked has to go through some hassle to get their account back, and sometimes their account is associated with private information that they don’t want coming out. And you guys like to poke fun at the whole idea? I hope you guys get your Xbox Live accounts hacked, and see if you’re singing the same song again.

Trolls on the Internet

It seems like the entire Internet has turned into a breeding ground for trolls to roam and make fun of anything they see. I’m not sure what’s caused this change or why it’s happened, but it’s spreading across many public channels and generally alienating new people from coming in, or making sure that new people that do come in also follow the trend of being a general troll, pissing off people left and right.

Personally, I categorize trolls into two types; ones that do it because it’s funny, in good taste, and everyone has a good laugh. The other does it at the expense of someone else. You can probably figure which kind of troll it is that I’m not quite fond of here.

The overall hate on the Internet has got to stop. Sadly, I don’t see this happening overnight.

This particular news pertains to the situation regarding language courses and the University of Toronto at Scarborough (aka, real life stuff). Story starts after the jump.

So I just came back from one of my language courses today, and it’s been brought to my attention that as of this morning, UTSC (UofT at Scarborough) has decided to cut all language courses. This summer there will only be three courses taught, and after that only Mandarin. In two years there will only be the Heritage Mandarin course, which is not suited to people who don’t know the Mandarin language in the first place.

Now, let’s get down to the likely case of what might happen as a result of this:

The student body is going to be the first ones to be mad about this. Hell, even I’m here writing about it. I may not be in a Humanities or Linguistics program, but I can clearly say that anyone in those programs are reliant on language courses as a necessity in their studies, and cutting out the programs is only going to worsen their educational career. If you are a part of the student body, I urge you to write out to any student or municipal newspaper outlets, get the word out and let people know about it.

The union that the professors are part of is going to be quite pissed as well. At least a quarter if not a lot of their members are going to be out of a job, and I’m sure they will not let this go easily. Chances are that if the union has anything to say about it, there’ll likely be a strike and I would support them if they should do such a thing.

If this university campus is allowed to continue on with this behavior, they will start eying other programs that they will want to cut as well. Last I checked, the Arts specialist programs were under scrutiny…

Needless to say there’s a lot of drama that’s going to start within the next month or two, and it’s not going to be pretty.

I took the time to rip the audio from the game, now it’s available for your listening:

Sendspace
Megaupload

This was done by feeding an optical audio cable into my Hauppauge HD PVR, which is then fed straight into my computer. As a result I get Dolby Digital 5.1 AC3 audio, which is as clean as it gets, short of extracting the game assets and converting it like that. Though upon examining the stream, it turns out the audio is 2-ch, with the back channels being nothing more than reverb. So the above files are only 2-ch AAC 192 kbps VBR audio, but enjoy!

P.S. I also normalized the audio tracks and did a bit of cleaning up with the Main Menu track to ensure it sounded great as a standalone track, but overall should be pretty much the same thing.
