PSU: Day 1

Friday, September 1st, 2006

Lots of things happening; SEGA detects problems and responds in five hours, apparently. Relatively good, as programming is an intense job anyway. Here’s the gallery.

UPDATE: It appears that the My Room servers are still buggy as hell, I’d recommend everyone to avoid using their My Room until further notice. Wait for an update from SEGA on the matter.

Oh and by the way, Sonic Statue for the win:

Game Clear!

Friday, September 1st, 2006

And thus ends Story Mode for PSU. 20 hours if you rush it, especially with the Double Saber Photon Art spamming and all. JonathanF has taken an interest to how I finished so I’ll be giving him a few tips here and there, helping him research his way to creating a speedrun. Cheers to that. The game is only 12 chapters offline btw:

ok, game clear data is basically restarting you at beginning of chapter 12 again but with your stats carried over… that’s about it
probably could get the ending again but meh
now, here’s my critiques for this game…
1. although lip syncing for the most part is good, they should have put more effort into making sure it was perfect
2. how did they compress the movies? they seemed a bit low-resolution to me
3. massive slowdown during final boss fight
4. game clear data should have been a new game+ or extra mode+ instead
5. there should have been a gallery mode to view movies and cutscenes for those who have a game clear data flag

Now if Extra Mode actually allows some stuff as a result of the Clear Data Flag, I might retract statement #5. Overall, this game was good, but obviously SEGA wants your moneys and wants you online. Boo~

By the way, Famitsu gave this 35/40. An accurate rating, if I might say so myself.

NCSX shipped my copy of Phantasy Star Universe yesterday; UPS picked it up around 5:41 Eastern Time and it’s taken them 23 hours so far. They’re now somewhere in Fort Erie, so I’m expecting that I’ll be getting my copy tomorrow as opposed to today. A shame.

It’s crossed the Canadian border but does anyone know where UPS usually sends their stuff to, in order to clear Customs? And how long does that usually take?

Story Mode forced?

Wednesday, August 30th, 2006

It would appear that the Network Mode is still down even four hours after SEGA claimed the servers would be up. Leads me to believe that Takao Miyoshi-san wanted people to play maybe up to at least Chapter 4 before going online, otherwise the offline mode may have been wasted…?

Needless to say, the story is still good. I’m up to Chapter 10 if people are wondering.

EDIT: Never mind, appears that Network Mode will open this afternoon, Japan time.

Blargh

Wednesday, August 30th, 2006

I know I’ve been slacking off in terms of the manga editing work but PSU Network Mode is coming soon and I’ll end up wasting a lot of time there. ^^; I do want to continue JINKI though, but for some reason .hack//G.U. seems to be losing my interest. This is mostly because of the fact there are a lot of stupid kiddies out there who like to annoy about this sort of crap, plus the storyline is not canon to what the games have presented so far. I dunno, I’m still thinking.

Some of you may have seen my Kanon Prelude fansub. I don’t expect to do Kanon (2006) at this time, but if interest is really high and there might be a translator or two who are willing to help out (or maybe a Kanon otaku? :o), perhaps I might actually consider doing the sub for real.

As some said, fansubbing is a lot easier to do than scanlating for some reason. Maybe it’s because it’s the times, or the software for fansubbing has become a lot easier to use than photoshopping all the time.

Phantasy Star Universe

Wednesday, August 30th, 2006

First off, the preorder business.

Because I was one of the more unfortunate ones to have preordered Phantasy Star Universe only two weeks in advance, NCSX was planning to put me on the backburner. Fortunately, kyori had preordered all the way back in January and cancelled his preorder, so I asked for priority with him and I got it. That should hopefully solve my problem for now; I hope the game gets shipped today.

EDIT: Speaking of which, they appear to have it in stock now. Hurrah!
Now for the game stuff. (no screens, sorry)
