The ending of the movie floored me, to ecco the sentiments of DNAngel. But the rest of the movie wasn't so great. I think the best way to see this series would be to watch the anime, and then watch the last 25 minutes of the movie as the final episode. Then just watch the tears flow.

The clannad movie was the first anime that actually made me cry. Actually it was the sadist thing that could make me cry in 15 years. The way the build up was boring but in the end it was worth waiting for.

I think the game is still superior than the movie.. Somehow it's feel kinda weird with tomoyo and kyou being together from the start.. lol
More over, fuuko, ryou, and kotomi didn't do any special roles and the stories only focused in nagisa stories which is pretty much different from the game (I think)..
So.. In short, this movie is kinda good, but it doesn't worthy to watch more than 1 times, unlike kanon..
I'll give this 6/10, because it's not satisfy me yet.

I just got through watching the EnA fansub DVDrip of this, and I'm not to sure if I'm going to import the DVD like I was planning on doing.

I haven't had a chance to play the game yet, as my japanese is very limited and I know almost 0 written Japanese, but from what I could tell, this differed so very much from the game. I'm not too mad at that, because a new view is always nice (I was able to watch all of this unlike the Shakugan no Shana movie which I skimmed through cause it was just the first 6 or so episodes condensed and better animated). The main flaw I found in it was this: Clannad is a game that cannot be properly adapted into a 90 minute movie. There is just too much going on. Hell, it hardly be adapted into a 22 episode anime, and that's without After Story. AS is such a big part of the game that it would take another season(at least 12 episodes) to do it justice.

All in all, the movie moved WAY too fast for my tastes, barely allowing me to absorb any of the emotions. I cried 3 times during Kanon 2006 because they were able to build it up properly. I expected to cry near the end of the Clannad movie, but didn't get anywhere close.

All in all, a 4.0/10 for me.

I find it interesting that despite the many flaws, the movie presented many different things Kyoani had about 0% chance of animating. The fact that it's so much different also makes it more interesting, since it is a different take. It also has less barriers, with less restrictions, though for that same reason it was easier to stray from the original formula.

The anime is more happy and conclusive in general, particularly when the company seems to have a pattern of absolutely not running a bad ending. Like you said, this was a victimizing aspect, and while it doesn't cover the full spectrum, it does cover what the anime hasn't aired. The movie has more conflict, or rather if there was an issue, it was further emphasized.

Also technically it was aired before the anime, and if it has so much inaccuracy, it doesn't downgrade the anime either. :P

Since it's a movie, there's a big limit on detail, and AS doesn't make sense if school life isn't addressed at all. Though the backwards approach was a concept I liked. The execution did seem weary as the momentum varied, but it was deemed watchable. Then again, to do a movie on clannad, you pretty much do pick a particle of AS. The truncations and revisions were probably done for movie flow.

Funny how Toei attains or uses the VAs that were originally used from the game (AIR) or drama CD variants. Kind of like, the "initial" intended.

And if the idea was milking, a movie was probably a lower investment than an anime. Anyways, the formula/concept was right, just not as fleshed out or allocated, but that's due to the different approach.

Still, I seemed to like it. It works. I didn't mind. Maybe I'm just TOEI biased. Watching the movie as "something else" made it more interesting.

so true man.
The anime is good, but the game is still superior.
Play the game, watch the anime and forget the movie.
