Namco: 500,000 PS3 games required for profit

Thursday, November 30th, 2006

GameSpot: Titles for Sony’s next-gen console have to shift half a million copies before developers start to make money, says Takeo Takasu.

That is NOT good news at all. I may have opted for the Wii in favor of costs and all, but I’d have hoped the PS3 would fare a little better than this. For a franchise to sell five hundred thousand copies requires a popular reputation, such as Metal Gear, Final Fantasy, Ace Combat, Armored Core, and so on. But those are coming from the big companies (Konami, Capcom, Namco, From Software). Just about everyone else is going to lose out and I’m disappointed that this sort of thing has to happen. This is also the reason why some PS3 exclusives have ended up on the 360, due to problems such as not having enough PS3s on the market when the Xbox 360 is in the lead with the Wii coming in at a close second.

The High Definition area of gaming is only going to be for insanely rich people, and there’s not a whole lot of those out there. That’s going to hurt.

Unofficial Zelda Timeline(s?) (not final)

Monday, November 27th, 2006

Here’s what I’ve gotten down so far:

Original Universe

Zelda (1987, NES)
Zelda II (1988, NES)

Past Universe

A Link to the Past (1992, SFC)
Link’s Awakening (1993, GB)

Time Universe

Ocarina of Time (1998, N64)
Majora’s Mask (2000, N64)
Twilight Princess (2006, Wii)
Wind Waker (2003, GC)
Phantom Hourglass (2007, NDS)

Oracle Universe

Oracle of Seasons (2001, GBC)
Oracle of Ages (2001, GBC)

Swords Universe

Minish Cap (2004, GBA)
Four Swords (2002, GBA)
Four Swords Adventures (2004, GC)

Until I can find more information that officially recognizes that some universes should be merged (e.g., Swords and Time universes), I guess I’ll leave it at that. Read more for some speculation (spoiler alert!).

Wii tidbits

Sunday, November 26th, 2006

Two things at the moment:

  1. I need a way to permanently turn on the disc slot light. Maybe in a future firmware update…?
  2. I wish the Wii would receive messages from a computer faster than usual. Maybe it’s spam protection or something, but that shouldn’t be necessary if e-mails are allowed on a case-by-case basis. So far it’s taken about 5~6 minutes to send the confirmation email from my Wii to my e-mail account, so let’s see.

I have the Wii!

This took me five days’ worth of hunting for just to grab this baby. I finally have it. :D

Wii out of stock

Sunday, November 19th, 2006

Damn it, why have all the shops run out so fast?! I really want a Wii…

Also while I’m at it, if you ever go to Markville Mall in Markham, don’t buy from EB Games. The register guys are asses; you ask them if they have Wii in stock, they’re like “Didn’t you see the sign in the front of the store?!” No. That’s not how you do business. You say, “Please check the front of the store as we update the status of our stock frequently.” That’s how you treat customers.

In short, don’t buy from that EB Games store.

Kanon 07

People, please remember the following equations:

Makoto + Scissors = Kyon no Imouto v2
Nayuki + Strawberry Jam = “Ichigo jamu… ichigo jamu… ichigo jamu~”
Makoto + Akiko’s Jam = “Aaauuu…”
Nayuki + wild cat = “Neko… neko… neko…”
Makoto + wild cat = “Give me back my nikuman!”

The serious stuff is finally kicking in for Makoto. I was wondering when we were getting to this stuff. Quite serious, and it looks like it’s not just gonna end there as the episode preview has been hinting at it.

You’re the man now, dog!

Priceless. I also loved the firecrackers scene. It sort of gives you that “oh crap, something’s gonna blow” feeling. I don’t think I’d have the guts to deal with those if someone threw them into the bedroom like that. I’d end up covering myself with the blanket for cover (is that even enough?).

Ayu has different variations of “uguu”, huh? おっと、体が爆発した。

Waah! I love being moe!” so Shiori says.

Mai: “Be careful, Guze are around here. You are merely a Torch, and I am merely a Flame Haze.” :D

Did I already mention 91 was an asshole?

Not only that, he:

  • accidentally stumbles upon her in the bathroom
  • calls her language “Makopii” language
  • makes her bite her tongue
  • has her attempt to buy pr0n
  • makes off with her nikuman

This episode was purely Makoto-oriented. There’s enough for the Mai fans though, especially with 91 trying to make her talk. It’s actually kinda cute watching her eat and stuff. It’s all the more amusing when she uses her sword to swipe away Makoto’s cloak, with the “AUUUU~~~!!!” and everything.

By the way, I might have spoiled myself a little bit here but…

  • she pats Makoto on the head, thinking that’s what she wanted
  • tells 91 to take care of her
  • says Makoto will need 91 more than anyone else

Does this have something to do with that legend that Nayuki talked about in the first episode? :3
